Is It The Perfect Career for You?

Gone are the days when society considered humanities a second-rung education and career, an option taken only by those less intelligent or unable to secure a place in the ‘mainstream’ disciplines. Today, it is one of the most sought after subjects in schools and colleges and is even a recommended discipline of study for those opting for science. It has been proven that a study of humanities lowers the walls that exist among disciplines enabling students to move across disciplines more freely.

“An individual has not started living until he can rise above the narrow confines of his individualistic concerns to the broader concerns of humanity.” This famous quote by Martin Luther King, Jr. is also relevant to business organizations.

Humanities encourages one’s attention to morality, ethics, and human life and its progress over the years. It focuses on the concepts of fair play and justice, empathy, and rights of minorities and equality. A holistic society with a solid framework of values is only possible if there is a strong thread of humanities connecting the other sectors such as finance, management, and science and technology. A career in humanities prepares you to fulfill your civic and cultural responsibilities. It strengthens your ability to communicate and work with others.

To pursue a career in humanities, a person should possess a confident personality, excellent communication skills, and an aptitude to empathize and understand human values. Humanities as a discipline is about interpretation that turns information into knowledge. This is true of all its various forms may it be literature, art history, sociology, psychology, political science, or anthropology.
